Tech Musing 2: JustPark

Thanks to the overwhelming success of companies like Uber, Lyft and Airbnb, more and more people are accepting the information sharing economic revolution. Everyday millions of people around the world are collaborating with complete strangers to find rides, rent out their extra bedrooms and even take care of their children. Information sharing apps and platforms are  seemingly popping up left and right allowing the average Joe become a "mini-entrepreneur" through peer-to-peer commerce. Apps like Airbnb, Uber and Lyft are mutually beneficial, providing convenience to one party and extra cash to the other-- everyone wins!

The latest information app that has caught my eye on the market is called JustPark (formerly known as ParkAtMyHouse). The layout and usability is similar to the Airbnb platform in that someone with extra space offers a spot for someone else to park while they are not utilizing it. JustPark makes nightmare-ish parking situations (finding an open meter, circling around a packed garage, you name it!) a breeze. The app leverages privately owned parking spaces in cities when not in use. Using the app is simple. Either download it to your mobile device or visit the JustPark website. Enter when and where you would like to park-- whether it be a half hour or six months-- and press search. Members of the community who have an extra space in their front yard or aren't utilizing their garage space can offer the spot for a reasonable price depending on the length of time the customer would like to park.

JustPark combines GPS technology and information sharing to solve one of the most annoying problems that nearly everyone faces: finding parking. This technology essentially creates the market for people who have unused parking and people who wish to find parking and matches the two in order to create a mutual benefit.

JustPark-- How it Works

  1. This is extremely cool because a lot of the times stuff like sporting events, concerts, and plays will create a lot of congestion in downtown areas. Some of my friends have even parked in such obscure spots that they forgot where there car was and had to go back in the morning. This would do exactly what you said in the article, it would create a way for the provider to get money and a way for the user to get easy access to something they really want. The fact that you can book for months in advance is also genius because it gives a stable way to make money to the provider and a "set in stone" parking spot for the user. Overall, awesome app and very cool article.

  2. Agree. Thanks for sharing this. Why don't we all know about these things. Have you or anyone you know used it?
