This New Sharing Economy App Really Is for Sharing-TimeRepublik

Q4 & Tech musing #2

First of all, we cannot deny apps like Uber and AirBnb bring help to our life and make our travel more convenient than ever before. However, all these “sharing app” actually provide a platform for people to earn money in the exchange of service. The Harvard Business Review stated that sharing is a form of social exchange that takes place among people known to each other, without any profit. So here is an example for that, TimeRepublik.

This is an app that gives a platform where people could exchange their talents and skills using time as currency instead of money. For all new users, they will get 5 hours for signing up and they can start searching for skills they want to learn from other users. You can earn time by teaching others or collect from the supporters of your work. TimeRepublik gathers people together to help each other whatever they need. As an example, I can teach someone to speak mandarin and then learn to surf from an instructor by using the “time” in my account.

TimeRepublik is now has over 100,000 talents shared in more than 110 countries around the world. It’s simple business model takes money out of the equation and focus on socializing and social value. I think it is more interesting and meaningful than earning money.
